Gallimard Jeunesse's new Young Adult label

In the literary market, the post-Covid period has been marked by the rise of the Young Adult genre. This booming phenomenon has been largely driven by reader communities on social media, particularly TikTok.

The publishing house Gallimard Jeunesse, renowned for its rich and eclectic catalog, had not yet invested in this literary segment. Eager to fully commit to it, it has launched a new project aimed at this readership. Gallimard Jeunesse has entrusted Graphéine with the task of naming and creating the visual identity for this new label.

An evocative emblem

The emblem embodies this symbolic richness. It evokes both the letter E for Élégy, the shape of a vial (a nod to love potions and magic potions), and a flame (a symbol of passion and adventure). The cartouche surrounding it, in addition to certifying the collection, recalls the shape of a medallion, a precious object that one keeps close to oneself—just like a memorable book.
It is used on the spine of books or as a profile picture on social media.

Communication and usage

We developed an iconographic principle that plays with light and shadows cast on books. This aesthetic cultivates an air of mystery around the unveiling of new titles in the collection.

To enhance the brand’s presence on social media, we also designed a range of custom pictograms to illustrate featured stories: hearts, stars, question marks… all symbols that extend the world of Élégy.

Fonts and colors

The main version of the logo is composed of a custom-designed typographic block.

The graphic charter uses two fonts. The Epicène Display font, from Klim Type Foundry, is used for the title. This elegant font echoes the style of the emblem. Its set of ligatures directly evokes the fantasy genre.
The Epicène Texte font is used for body text. Suitable for writing, it illustrates the literary dimension of Élégy.

The official color of Élégy—purple—evokes dreams, mystery, magic, femininity… All facets that reflect the spirit of Gallimard Jeunesse’s new collection. Gold is a reminder of the image of the box, emphasizing the precious nature of the collection.

For Gallimard Jeunesse, Élégy embodies a new voice dedicated to the Young Adult segment, carried by a unique graphic universe that expresses all the richness and essence of the collection.
