Château and Domaine de Sceaux

A new festive and contemporary identity

The Château de Sceaux stands at the heart of the Domaine de Sceaux, belonging to the Hauts-de-Seine Department.

Being well-known as a place for both strolling and exploring, the Domaine de Sceaux welcomes several million visitors every year. Situated in the centre of the park, the Château houses the permanent collections of the departmental museum.

Since its inception, the Domaine de Sceaux has been a place of conviviality and celebration. From the Grandes Nuits de Sceaux conceived by the Duchess of Maine in the 18th century, to the Bals de Sceaux of the 19th century, to the Sceaux Jazz Festival held annually since 2021, as well as Hanami, the cherry blossom festival, the estate has always been at the forefront of cultural celebrations.

As a part of its efforts to modernise and enhance its cultural sites, the Hauts-de-Seine department wished to rebrand the Sceaux estate. Graphéine responded to this design brief by creating a modern identity for a venue at the intersection of historical heritage and contemporary events.

“Sceaux is just as fun as Versailles is boring.”

A monumental floral monogram

To embody the Sceaux Estate and Château, we designed an S-shaped monogram.
An ornamental, elegant and dynamic emblem that reflects the festive and lively spirit of the estate.

The monogram is a reference to the park’s landscape. Its crossbar, directly inspired by the coat of arms of the Duchess of Maine, represents the estate’s walkways. The circle symbolises the sunshine in the park, and the triangle, in addition to acting as the lower serif of the S, symbolises the yew trees in the park and the roof of the château.

The blue colour of the logo was chosen to match that of the Hauts-de-Seine department. It is complemented by a palette of contemporary colours that liven up all the communication of the estate and the château. The accompanying typeface, Ostia Antica by Fonderie Bureau Brut, stands out for its expressive character, whose forms evoke the château and the estate: solid letterforms with floral terminals.

The monogram takes centre stage in the graphic system and serves as a window offering a glimpse into upcoming exhibitions and events. Various compositional principles have been developed, enabling the full range of the identity to be adapted across all touchpoints. The visual identity is applied to both indoor and outdoor signage, from the Château to the Estate.

Thanks to this new, unified and assertive identity, the Château and the Domaine de Sceaux are well-equipped to fully expand their influence across the department and beyond.
